FAQ
Troubleshooting your Internet connection:
- Check your modem settings for pulse/tone dialing (depends on the area you are in). Go to -> start -> control panel -> phone/modem options -> edit
- Rather disable the area and country code settings. Go to start -> control panel -> network connections -> right click Lando Icon -> Properties -> Uncheck use dialing rules
- Check your cable connections on modem. The one marked Line must go to the telephone wall socket.
- If you hear your modem connecting to the Internet, but the connection is cut, make sure you username and password are entered properly - remember no capital letters or spaces are allowed.
- If the modem cannot detect the dial-tone, go to -> start -> control panel -> phone/modem options -> modem -> Click Properties for your Modem -> modem -> Uncheck wait for dial tone before dialing.
- Remove your modem from Windows and re-install according to the manufacturers instructions (Make sure you have the original driver disk for the modem before you remove your modem).
- Install the modem as a standard modem using Windows standard drivers.
- Test the line to your ISP by dialing the internet connection number (0860007249) from your handset and listen for the modem noises as it is trying to connect.
- Take your computer to another location, being a friends house or business premises, and use the telephone line there to get proof that your equipment and setup works fine. If your computer connects there, then the problem is with the physical Telkom line (Be sure that you have tested all your cables, modem, etc.)
- Phone Telkom at 10212 and ask for the line to be tested – This is done while you're on the line.

How do I setup a dialup account?
Windows XP:
- Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Setup
- Select Connect to the Internet and click Next
- Select Setup my connection manually and click Next
- Select Connect using a dialup modem and click Next
- Type a name for your ISP and click Next
- Enter the phone number to dial the Internet and click Next (0860007249)
- Select Anyone's use and click Next
- Enter your Internet Login name and password and click Next and Finish.
Windows 7:
- Click on the Windows Button (Start Button)
- Click Control Panel
- Click Network & Internet Options
- Click Click the Internet Options Link
- Click the Connection Tab at the top
- Click the Set Up button
- Enter the appropriate dial up number for your respective are
- Enter your Username and Password into the respective boxes. You will need to re-enter the password in the second password box. Click Next to continue.
- Make sure Remember this password is checked
- Type NetEase into the Connection name box
- Click Connect
- If your computer is not connected to a phone line, the Internet connection will report it was unsuccessful. Click Set up connection anyway
- If your computer connects, you can now browse the Internet
- Click Close to get out of the wizard
- Close any other open windows that are not needed
How do I setup my email account?
Outlook Express/2000:
- Open Outlook Express. Do not connect i.e. work offline.>
- Go to Tools -> Accounts -> Click Mail tab. Select Add mail.
- Enter your Name and click Next
- Enter your Email Address and click Next
- Select the Incoming mail server POP3 and enter in your Incoming Mail server e.g. pop3.lando.co.za.
- Select the Outgoing mail server e.g. smtp.saix.net and click Next.
- Enter in your Account Name. Enter your FULL Email Address.
- Enter your password as used for this email address and click Next and Finish.
Outlook/2002/2003/XP:
- Open Outlook. Do not connect i.e. work offline.
- Go to Tools -> Email Accounts -> Click Add a new email account and click Next.
- Select POP3 and click Next
- Complete the following:
Your Name
Email address
Incoming mail Server POP3 = pop3.lando.co.za
Outgoing mail server SMTP = smtp.saix.net
User Name (Enter your FULL Email Address)
Password as used for this email address.
- Click Next and Finished
Windows Live Mail:
- Multiple email accounts can be added on Windows Live Mail one by one. Choose the account you want to first and gather all the information required for Windows Live Mail settings
- The login details – username and password
- Incoming email server address and type
- Outgoing email server address
- Open Windows Live Mail
- Click on Add an email account button located on the left, or go to Tools -> Accounts and hit the Add button.
- Choose Email–Account
- Whichever path you take, you should get the Add an E-mail Account window similar to one below
- Enter your email address, your password and display name. Ensure the Remember password box is checked unless you are paranoid about security and want to enter the password every time you access your account. Hit the Next button to continue
- You now need to select your incoming mail server type and type in the address and port number (or leave it to the default 110). If your login ID is different from your email address, remember to put it in the corresponding text field and feed in the Outgoing email server address. To continue, click on the Next button
- The Windows Live Mail setup process is now complete. You have a choice of setting the new account as the default by checking the box
- When a new email account is added on Windows Live Mail, the program creates 5 new folders - The Inbox, Drafts, Sent items, Junk e-mail and Deleted items - refer image below
- For all you Outlook Express users - The Junk e-mail folder was an included in Windows Mail Vista as a part of the automated junk email filter utility and carried forward to Windows Live Mail email client
- The last step is to modify the properties of the newly set up email account. Right-click on the account in the left panel and select Properties. Under the generals tab, enter the reply email address and then shift your attention to the Advanced tab. Uncheck the Leave a copy of messages on server unless you really want to store your emails online too
How do I setup my email account if I have a Domain?
Outlook Express/2000:
- Open Outlook Express. Do not connect i.e. work offline.
- Go to Tools -> Accounts -> Click Mail tab. Select Add mail.
- Enter your Name and click Next.
- Enter your Email Address and click Next.
- Select the Incoming mail server POP3 and enter in your Incoming Mail server e.g. mail.domain name.co.za/.com/etc.
- Select the Outgoing mail server e.g. smtp.saix.net and click Next.
- Enter in your Account Name. Enter your FULL Email Address.
How do I setup identities in Outlook Express?
- Click on File -> Identities -> Add New Identity.
- Insert name.
- Tick checkbox 'Require Password'.
- Insert password.
- Click OK.
- 'Do you want to switch to [name] now?' -> YES.
- 'Create a new Internet mail account' -> NEXT.
- Insert name -> NEXT.
- Insert e-mail address -> NEXT.
- Incoming mail = e.g. pop3.lando.co.za.
- Outgoing mail = e.g. smtp.saix.net.
- 'Account name' = e.g. sample@lando.co.za.
- 'Password' = (e-mail password) -> NEXT -> FINISH.
- 'Import Messages' - 'Import From' -> NEXT.
- 'Messages & Address Book' -> NEXT.
- 'All Folders' -> NEXT.
- FINISH.
